The ZuReach Kickoff Meeting: A great success!
How accessible are sidewalks in Zurich for people with mobility restrictions or impairments? This was the central question we explored at the official kick-off of the ZuReach project, together with our participants! At two events on the 30th of June and the 6th of August, we were able to gather many valuable experiences and important insights.

ZuReach is built on co-creation, meaning we actively involve people with lived experience of accessibility challenges at almost every stage of the project. At the two events held at the UZH Digital Society Initiative, we welcomed a wonderfully diverse group of participants, including:
People with mobility impairments
Individuals with visual impairments
Caregivers (with situational restrictions)
People on the autism spectrum
Older adults
In the first round of group discussions, we explored participants’ needs, concerns, and expectations regarding sidewalk accessibility in Zurich. In the second round, we discussed street elements, which ones act as barriers or facilitators depending on individual perspectives. It was inspiring to see the variety of responses, and participants also shared real-life challenges they face when navigating Zurich’s sidewalks.
And this is just the beginning! We’ll be organizing more events soon; stay tuned and join us in working toward a more inclusive Zurich for everyone.
