#111: Investigating plants genetic structure from above

Advances in methods and interweaving of disciplines enable us to better understand what drives changes in biodiversity.

Biodiversity is rapidly changing. Monitoring programs seek to describe these changes systematically in order to support prediction and conservation. Of all the layers of biodiversity, genetic diversity is especially work-intensive to monitor. Yet it captures the adaptive potential of species in changing environments.

Remote sensing offers new opportunities for large-scale, global genetic variation monitoring. By discovering links between an organism's genetic composition, and how it interacts with electromagnetic radiation, we will better understand what is driving changes in biodiversity, how to prevent or reduce biodiversity decline, and how to restore ecosystems in decline.
