Seminar Series: Cities Lately
On April 21, 2026, Ifigeneia Dimitrakou presented her ongoing research as part of the Cities Lately Seminar Series, hosted by National Centre for Social Research (EKKE) in Athens. Her talk “Vacancy and the politics of property knowledge in Athens” presented an analysis of the systemic character of housing vacancy within the local property regime with an emphasis on the changing ways in which vacancy is framed, measured, and governed. Bringing together insights from her PhD research and her current work, the talk examined how discourses, policies, and new digital tools of property monitoring reshape the politics of housing. The seminar offered an opportunity for critical discussion on the role of the state, knowledge production, and the shifting narratives around vacancy in contemporary Athens.
