Explore some characteristics

Mountain ecology is fascinating!

What are the causes for the altitudinal vegetation zonation?
What is special in the alpine envrionment?

The distinct abiotic (and biotic) conditions of the alpine environment allow only specialized plants and animals to survive. Yet, those organisms who are adapted cope very well with these conditions and some are even not able to survive under more 'moderate' conditions at lower altitudes.

Here you see examples for alpine organisms. Click on them to get information about some characteristic features:

How can these variety and adaptations be explained?

Act Below, you can explore some more aspects of the alpine life zone and get an overview over the course and its lessons.
