NextGenCarbon Meeting in Umeå
Last week, NextGenCarbon project partners came together at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in Umeå for the project’s annual meeting. Over several days, the project teams shared updates on their latest progress and ongoing research.
We also joined the meeting to present an update on our contribution. Our work focuses on using GNSS observations to better understand vegetation water dynamics. At our research sites in Switzerland, GNSS sensors measure vegetation optical depth, which provides information on changes in vegetation water content. These observations will contribute to the modelling approaches developed within NextGenCarbon.
NextGenCarbon brings together project partners from 22 European countries to improve our understanding of how carbon is exchanged between ecosystems and the atmosphere. By combining advanced carbon modelling with Earth observation data and machine learning, the project aims to improve the monitoring and modelling of carbon fluxes across different ecosystems. The rseulting data and tools are intended to support climate policy as well as more informed land management.
