In collaboration with Black History Month at NYU, Florence, Timothy Raeymaekers and a collective of scholars launched the edited volume “The Black Mediterranean”.
The volume seeks to rethink the contemporary European migrant crisis in the Central Mediterranean by foregrounding questions of race and Blackness.
The Black Mediterranean captures the long history of racial subordination and resistance in the Mediterranean region, and points to overlooked histories of racial violence.
