European State of the Climate 2022

The Copernicus Climate Change Service, on behalf of the European Commission, released the European State of the Climate 2022 report. The World Glacier Monitoring Service (WGMS) - located at the Department of Geography - contributed glacier data and analyses.

European State of the Climate 2022

The report highlights that the last eight years were the warmest on record for the globe as a whole. In Europe, 2022 was the second warmest year and the warmest summer on record. Glaciers continued to melt at global level and experience a record ice loss in the European Alps.
