Rendzic Leptosol

Location: Alps, Italy, 2300 m asl

O: Thick organic layer, low pH-values, although dolomite is the bedrock.

R: Dolomite (bedrock)

Leptosols are limited in depth because the bedrock is close to the surface or due to very stony unconsolidated material. Lithic Leptosols have a weakly developed organic Ai-horizon. Mollic and dystric Leptosols have better developed Ah-horizons on silicatic rock. Rendzic Leptosols are typical for carbonate rocks.
