Machine-Vision Drones Monitor Animals in the African Savanna

mammals in klahari

To avoid overgrazing, land managers of the Kalahari must ensure that the number of grazers is matched to the availability of food.

A trained machine-vision algorithm analyses photographs taken by drones to monitor the number of mammals in the Savanna. The cited paper is based on the Master’s thesis of Nicolas Rey, which was supervised by our former associate professor Devis Tuia.
