Scientifica 2026

Together with our colleagues at the Remote Sensing Laboratories (RSL), we brought remote sensing closer to a broad audience at this year’s Scientifica.

At our joint booths in Dübendorf and at ETH Zurich, researchers from across the RSL groups gave visitors an insight into the methods and technologies we use to observe our planet.

Visitors had the opportunity to see some of these technologies in action, including a thermal camera and a field spectrometer. Our Remote Sensing of Water Systems team brought along an underwater drone and demonstrated how systems like this can be used to explore and study aquatic environments.

In Dübendorf, our colleagues from ARES were also on site with a research aircraft. They introduced visitors to the sensors and instruments they use for airborne Earth observation and offered a glimpse into how research flight campaigns are carried out.

For us, Scientifica was also an opportunity to step outside our day-to-day research and engage directly with the public. We were particularly pleased to see so many children and young people curious about remote sensing and the technologies we work with. Conversations with visitors also gave us the chance to discuss current environmental issues and show how remote sensing can help us monitor environmental change and better understand the processes behind it.
