Plagiarism and AI-use

Plagiarism is defined as the reproduction, in whole or in part, of another person’s work without citing the source or the author. Plagiarism is, in essence, an infringement of copyright. Shorter passages from another person’s work may be quoted, if the quotation is clearly marked as such and the source is cited. To help prevent plagiarism and familiarise yourself with the various types of plagiarism, the University Library of Zurich has created a comprehensive website.

Plagiarism can also arise when working with AI, whether through AI-generated images or texts created by AI that may be based on the work of others.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a useful tool for many tasks during your studies. Nevertheless, you should not use the tool uncritically. Ultimately, you are responsible for your own results. There are tasks that AI can perform effectively (see video  "Wie KI funktioniert"). Uncritical use of AI can hinder your learning success.
