BACKGROUND
"Urban cultures in America and around the world are growing, and with this growth comes a unique set of health issues.
Traditional public health and medical practices and methods must be adapted to respond to the urban population." (Journal of Urban Health, 2019)
In order to achieve this adaptation to the changing population in urban surroundings much research needs to be done.
Part of this process are useful and informative geovisualizations to help decision makers understand the problems and issues.
On this web page, we therefore propose one such a geovisualization where the health quality of restaurants in New York City is looked at,
with respect to the demographic statistic of the population. The goal is to visualize, which neighborhoods perform poorly
and are therefore in need of more financial support. Furthermore, we would like to see,
whether there is a correlation between the demographic statistic and the health quality of restaurants.

A visualiuation of restaurant inspection results
With the interactive map below you have the possibility to get to know the dataset yourself.
In the background, you can see a choropleth map with the population of the respective ZIP code,
which will appear in the popup window. The legend can be faded in and out at will. With the slider,
you can set a range of scores of the restaurants. The higher the score, the worse the restaurant meets the hygienic conditions.
One can discover a slight trend that shows that the more people live in an area,
the worse the hygienic conditions are in the restaurants. But let yourself be inspired by the map and make further assumptions.
