I am an urban researcher with a venia legendi in Geography (habilitation) from the University of Zurich, PhD in Geography from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (summa cum laude), Master of Public Policy from the Hertie School of Governance and a BA from the College of Social Studies, Wesleyan University. Formerly a Fulbright Fellow, I have also worked in the consulting sector for several years and held postdoctoral appointments at the City University of Hong Kong and the London School of Economics.

Curriculum Vitae

My research considers the question of comparative urban research and its potential for redressing existing modes of urban theorization. Beyond its critique of the parochialism endemic to urban theory, how can comparative urbanism be operationalized for research design? Currently, I am researching the contemporary art biennial in Dakar and Taipei to explore questions of cultural representation, public space, and la ville événementielle. My most recent book is Engaging Comparative Urbanism: Art Spaces in Beijing and Berlin (Bristol University Press, 2020).
