Climate change poses unprecedented challenges to society which can only be understood using inter- and transdisciplinary research approaches that draw from multiple lines of evidence. Our research group investigates a variety of climate impacts and risks with a particular focus on complex and cascading risks which affect multiple systems and regions. We study impacts and associated risks over a large range of space and time: from analyzing hazards and impacts in the past and the attribution to climate change to future projections and deep uncertainties. We have a broad regional focus with projects located in Switzerland, Central Asia, South Asia and South America.
A large portion of our research is performed in the context of national and international climate and environmental policy, where we collaborate with national governments and international organizations, typically with an adaptation, capacity building and risk reduction perspective.
