Why treelines?

NE-Sichuan (China)

The eastern-most chains of the Eurasian high mountain system. The shrublands near the treeline are very rich in species belonging to the genera Crataegus, Sorbus, Quercus, Berberis, Ribes, etc. The substitute pastures are rich in Leontopodium ("edelweiss"), Arnica, Lilium and Veratrum, very similar to the central and southern Alps.
