Social and Industrial Ecology

The unit Social and Industrial Ecology of the Department of Geography at the University of Zürich develops concepts, methods and models for supporting transitions towards sustainable development. In doing so the group is engaged in three major areas:

(i) Development of simulation models combining decision-making and environmental process models;

(ii) development of sustainability assessment tools; and

(iii) development of transidisciplinary methods to include stakeholder knowledge and views in the problem definition and solving process.

The group carries out research projects in developing countries (Latin America) as well as in Switzerland.
