Curriculum Vitae
He received the M.Sc. degree in Geography in 1982 and the Ph.D. (Hons.) degree in Remote Sensing in 1989 from the University of Zurich, Switzerland. From 1979 to 1982 he was a research assistant with the Remote Sensing section and from 1982 to 1983 with the GIS Laboratory of the Department of Geography, University of Zurich. Since 1983 he has been with the Remote Sensing Laboratories (RSL) of the University of Zurich as a research scientist. For more than 10 years he was leading the SAR group within RSL. His current position is Scientific Section Head.
Research Interests
His research interests include remote sensing and image processing in general as well as image geometry, information extraction, image restoration and 3-D-visualization in particular. He has developed the algorithms for the operational high precision geocoding of ERS SAR data at the German Processing and Archiving Facility (D-PAF).
- Research in digital image processing, mainly SAR data processing
- Geometric and radiometric calibration and texture analysis
- Responsible for the development of operational spaceborne and airborne SAR geocoding software
- Co-investigator ERS-1, ERS-2 and Envisat/ESL
- R&D in optical image data processing, algorithm development for the processing of spaceborne and airborne scanner data
- Software and algorithm development in computer graphics and 3D-applications
- Consulting on behalf of several national and international organizations and private companies
- Publications and presentations in remote sensing and computer graphics
- Member of international working groups and science teams
