Research interests
I am generally interested in biogeochemistry and soil science. I study the interactions between plant, soil and atmosphere on a chemical basis. My main focus lies on soil carbon cycle processes and its interactions with increased atmospheric CO2 levels and nitrogen deposition. More specifically, I am investigating the influence of nitrogen deposition on the composition and turnover of plant-derived (lignin) and microbially-derived (amino sugars) molecular markers in soil.
I am applying density and particle-size fractionation to separate soil in conceptually defined pools of organic matter. Within these soil fractions, I am analyzing molecular markers by compound-specific stable-isotope-analysis using gas- (GC-IRMS) and liquid-chromatography (LC-IRMS).
