Research interests
My research activities focus on natural hazards in (glacierized) high mountain areas and volcanic regions. The main interests thereby are:
- Impact of climate change on glaciers and permafrost and its consequences for slope stability
- Rapid mass movements (landslides, avalanches, debris flows, floods and rockfall)
- Hazard mitigation, mapping, risk analysis and early warning systems
- Volcanic hazards (volcano-ice interaction and lahars)
The tools to investigate these topics are:
- Remote sensing, GIS, Matlab and various numeric models
- Physical modelling of mass movements in the laboratory
- Field surveys and case study analysis
