This Master’s degree program provides a unique blend of placing problems of poverty, exclusion, violence and state failure in the Global South into a broader perspective of globalization and global North-South relations.
Four research units at the Department of Geography, Switzerland’s largest geography department, offer the Specialized Master's program:
Throughout the development of your research project, you will be provided with in-depth tutoring support. The program’s core courses are delivered in small group teaching. You will choose a senior member of staff as mentor who will advise and guide you.
You will be integrated into the scholarly community of the department, taking part in their seminars, colloquia and other activities. The research groups that run this study program work in South Asia, Africa, Latin America as well as Europe and have a dense network of international collaborations at their disposal that can be mobilized for your own research project. You will benefit from a broad range of opportunities to conduct fieldwork overseas. Funding for field work is available.
