e-learning opens new possibilities in teaching and learning by:
a) | innovative methods |
b) | new tools |
c) | combinations of methods and tool |
Reasonable Application
The use of e-learning is reasonable if it allows you to improve the teaching quality by:
- illustrating learning content more concrete and/or practice-oriented
- activating students to learn and communicate
- offering a variety of methods and interesting lessons
- opening individual learning paths
- providing time and space independency of learning
and of course if it facilitates organisational operations.
e-learning methods
e-learning follows the principles of pedagogy and didactics and does not represent an own methodology of teaching.
The applied methods are the same as established in traditional teaching / training (e.g. problem based learning).
Of course there are techniques only used in elearning scenarios like web quests or virtual tours.
The new technologies open diverse possibilities:
- space and time independency,
- collaboration with different tools,
- new assignment of tasks (e.g. web quest),
- implementation of interactive content ,
- check of learning progress,
- corrections and tests guided by systems
- and much more ....
The combination of elearning and presence lessons is called Blended Learning. This kind of mixed teaching scenario is implemented in a great number of courses because it allows students to stay in "real" contact with trainers and peers.
