A Master's degree or an equivalent degree in a subject and from an institution acceptable to University and Faculty regulations is the prerequisite for admission to the doctorate. There are no other restrictions.

Specific procedure at the Faculty of Science

PhD students are recruited by individual professors or by the principal investigators (PI) of research projects in agreement with the unit’s head at any time during the year. Get in contact with the research units you are interested in and have a look at currently advertised open positions.

Note: The Zurich Graduate School in Geography/Earth System Science itself does not offer any funding schemes for PhD students and doesn't handle applications.

Application documents

The supervision agreement needs to be completed, signed and submitted to the Graduate School. A letter of acceptance will thereafter be issued.

All those with an appropriate Masters degree, regardless of gender, race or disability will be equally considered for the Graduate School. International PhD candidates are encouraged to attend German language courses early in their studies. We believe this increases the possibilities for integration in the department and the wider community.
