Land Surface Phenology is the study of seasonal patterns of variation in vegetated land surfaces as observed from remote sensing.
Monitoring Land Surface Phenology is important for understanding the response of ecosystems to environmental change, as well as for monitoring biodiversity. Focusing on the last three decades (1982 - 2012), this paper examines trends in the timing of start, end and duration of the growing season globally.
